Q4.
In Overview Product
Parameters, my freezing point of Zitrec S decreases with increasing
concentration. Why is this?
Zitrec S is quite a unique product in that it consists of a matrix of
potassium formate and sodium propionate. The ratio of these salts
change with varying freezing points. As a consequence, Zitrec S exists actually
out of 2 base-products : Zitrec S-10°C and Zitrec S -55°C. All
intermediate freezing points can be blended out of these 2 base-products.
The concentration data in Prozit are therefore always expressed as
concentrations of Zitrec S -10°C. The remaining is not water (as with
the other Zitrec products), but must be Zitrec S-55°C. An example
extracted from Prozit :
| Overview Product Parameters | Dilution % | |
| 50% | ||
| Temperature: -10 °C | ZITREC | |
| S | ||
| Density | kg/m³ | 1219 |
| Specific heat | kJ/kg.K | 3.01 |
| Kinematic viscosity | cSt=mm²/s | 5.03 |
| Thermal conductivity | W/m.K | 0.46 |
| Vapour pressure | Pa | no data |
| Electrical conductivity | mS/cm | no data |
| Prandtl number | 40.31 | |
| Refractive index | 20 °C | no data |
| Boiling point | °C | 108 |
| Freeze point | °C | -27 |
This means 50% Zitrec S-10 - when mixed with 50% Zitrec S-55 a freezing point of -27°C is obtained. More info on Zitrec S - see products-page.
